10:10's first summer has been a festival frenzy, with outdoor events across the length and bredth of the UK cutting their emissions with all kinds of measures, from low-energy lighting and car-sharing schemes to a solar-powered stage. But before we pack away our sleeping bag and tent (or should that be ten-tent?), we have one more festival to look forward to… and it's a biggie!

The mighty Bestival, the summer’s fantastic sell-out finalé, has been cutting its carbon left, right and centre. Its initiatives include the creation of a new ‘Tomorrow’s World’ area showing off renewable energy technology, a transport plan promoting public transport and car sharing, a drive that'll see Scouts recycling abandoned tents and a programme to minimise waste. Bestival also sends almost all its non-recyclable waste to a plant that converts it into energy to power homes on the Isle of Wight, so as little as possible goes to landfill. As if that wasn't enough, the kindly folks at Bestival are offering one 10:10er a pair of tickets to the event, to be held on the Isle Of Wight on September 9-12. The lucky winner will get to see acts including Prodigy, LCD Soundsystem and Roxy Music perform.
