James Garvey speaks and writes on the ethics of climate change, the history of philosophy, the philosophy of mind, philosophy in the public arena and other related topics.
His work covers both academic and general audiences, including newspaper op-eds and radio appearances. He's also working on a travel book about a low-carbon journey from London to Hong Kong and back — through Mongolia in winter.
James has a PhD in philosophy from University College London and works for the Royal Institute of Philosophy, an educational charity supporting philosophy in all its forms, inside and outside the academy. He is also the editor of The Philosophers' Magazine, a quarterly which publishes readable, accessible philosophy. Along with Jeremy Stangroom, he edits Think Now, a series of books on social and political philosophy, which aims to lend philosophical clarity to debates in the wider world.
Garvey is currently writing a book on the history of philosophy, and volunteering with Thames Reach.
