Your
next 10:10 success

A clean power supply means a smaller carbon footprint for everyone. We're all doing our bit at home – let's make sure the government's energy plan does us justice.

Update November 2012: the government just announced that it's not setting a 2030 target for clean power... yet. See our new blog to find out what this means, and what happens next.

Every week we hear from more 10:10ers making impressive energy savings at home, but we've never had much chance to affect what happens on the other side of the plug – in the electricity supply itself – until now!

Politicians are planning huge changes to our energy system, and the decisions they make now will determine how Britain is powered for decades to come. We're all doing our bit at home – here's a chance to really make it count.

Let's tell Ed Davey that we want a bold plan for clean power.

The big prize: clean power for everyone

There's lots of good stuff in the government's plan as it stands, but they've left out the ambitious targets and tough deadlines needed to actually make it happen. It's our job to get these put back in!

Because most of our electricity comes from burning coal and gas, every unit has its own mini carbon footprint. Right now it's just over 500 grams per unit. The big prize is a clear plan to get that down to 50 grams by 2030, keeping Britain's carbon-cutting on track and creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs in clean technology.?

And that's where we come in. Climate minister Ed Davey is thrashing out these details right now, and public opinion will play a big part in his decision. He needs to know that if he throws his weight behind a really ambitious plan, we're with him all the way.

Your next 10:10 success

If you're proud of your 10:10 achievements so far, this is the perfect next step. Don't worry if you've never written to a politician before – our simple tool walks you through the whole process, with plenty of tips and info to help you write and send your own personal email direct from the 10:10 website. It takes a bit longer than signing a petition or sending some pre-written text (five minutes or so), but political insiders have told us that these personal messages have a much bigger impact.

This can be the start of something big – the kind of shift we need to build a modern energy system and get climate change sorted.
