Silent marchers enjoy the music (and the sunshine)
More than 400 people met at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to dance their way - silently - to a low-carbon future. In a huge march, revellers donned wireless headphones and shimmied and shook through the streets without a sound. Music was provided by DJ Dr Motte (of Love Parade) and Dirty Doering (hero of Bar 25). In a virtually carbon-free parade, both DJs were driven alongside the parade on scooters and powered their sound systems with solar energy. Passers by who stopped to stare were given flyers containing tips on cutting emissions.
Taking a breather on the Climate Couch
The German 10:10 team also took to the streets of Berlin in an ambitious bid to sign up 1,010 people to 10:10 in a day, and caught up with the Climate Couching group, who have been roving around the city with their little wicker sofa, inviting people to pledge to cut their carbon. They even let the 10:10DE ladies take a break for a low-carbon packed lunch on the comfort of their green cushions.
Meanwhile, still in Berlin, Climate Pirates held an event to help people switch to a green energy provider and gave advice for cutting carbon, and in Mauerpark, a group has organised an awareness-boosting limbo. Let's see just 'how low [carbon] they can go'. If it's anything like the rest of German 10:10:10 activities today, this will be some contest!
