Energy
Superheroes

Superman fought Lex Luther, Batman battled the Joker. But in Herefordshire, a new generation of 10:10 superheroes will be recruited for the greatest challenge of all.

Herefordshire’s 8-11 year olds are on a mission to curb climate change and, in a project to be launched on 10th October as part of our Global Day Of Doing, workshops will provide young people from local schools with energy saving powers.

Sounds dramatic? Well it is. It’s an initiative run by Hereford arts centre The Courtyard, which uses drama to make energy conservation accessible to a younger audience. Participants will be invited to create their own outrageous superhero characters to take the energy-saving challenge to their home, school and beyond.

It’s unconventional but effective, according to organiser Grant Brisland. The key is in allowing young people to be active learners, utilising their creativity to create a fun and engaging process. Ensuring we use resources efficiently is the responsibility of everybody, young and old – but Grant believes that children of this age have a particular ‘pester-power’ to encourage others to make changes.

The Courtyard is new to 10:10, having registered their 10th October event on the 350.org website. But having been introduced to the campaign through 10:10:10, Grant is eager to sign up himself and get his organisation to do the same. Here at 10:10 HQ, we can't wait to welcome them and their unconventional, innovative approach to the 10:10 family.

There are just five weeks to go till the big day! If you haven't so already, let us know what your 10:10:10 plans are at day@1010global.org and keep checking here for exciting updates!
