A new partnership between 10:10 and ULI will tackle high energy use in the commercial property sector
30 Sep 10
Efficient buildings are a crucial step on the way to a clean, low-carbon economy, so we're delighted to welcome our latest sign-up: The European branch of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the world’s leading membership organisation for the real estate sector.
With more than 2000 members across 13 countries, ULI Europe does research and provides advice to businesses and governments on how they can make our towns and cities more pleasant places to live. They've also just launched Less_en, an initiative aiming to reduce carbon emissions from commercial properties. ULI will be joining forces with us to tackle emissions in the sector, which account for as much as 18% of the UK's total carbon footprint.
In a move that will appeal to tech-geeks and green-fiends alike, ULI have created a Less_en smartphone app, which uses (nerd alert!) augmented reality to identify buildings according to their DEC rating. For the less technologically inclined, that means you can point your smartphone at a building, and it will tell you how energy efficient it is. Here's how the app looks in action:

Less_en have helped organise our forthcoming tenants and landlords' event on how businesses and building managers can work together to achieve more carbon-friendly workplaces. Some seats are still available for the event, which takes place on 5th October at Kyocera Technology Suite in London.
If you are a commercial tenant or landlord and would like to attend, please contact business@1010.org.uk.
