You
call that a soft ball?

Team 10:10 makes its first tentative foray into the fearsomely competitive world of inter-organisational sport.

10:10's Press Manager JB in softball action

After a gruelling game of softball proper, we resorted to playing with a really soft ball.

On Tuesday evening 10 willing volunteers donned their best sporting gear (or just their normal work clothes if they’d forgotten to pack their kit) and strolled confidently up to Regents Park to take on the might of sustainability gurus, Forum for the Future. Undaunted by the prospect of taking on a far more experienced team, one who had their own bat and gloves and had actually seen a softball before, Team 10:10 gritted its teeth and prepared to unleash a recycled can of whup-ass.

Here’s how it went down:

  • After two innings the score was tied at 10:10 (yes really)
  • In order to even up numbers we cut 10% of our team, and let them play for the opposition
  • Softballs really are harder than the name would have you believe
  • We had to finish up when it started getting dark. If only it had been lighter later...

Oh, and we lost. Though to be fair this might not have happened if the 10:10 staff guesting for Forum hadn’t insisted on scoring home runs against us (take a bow Mal).

Anyway, in spite of our loss, we were filled with the joys of fresh air, exercise, teamwork and a sunny evening spent in Regents Park with fellow carbon cutters. Now we’re raring to take on our next challenger.

Who dares step up to the plate?
