"Know
that you're not alone"

30-second interview with Green Leader Dr Susan Juned

Dr Susan Juned at Sustainability West MidlandsDr Susan Juned is Director of Greenwatt Technology and an elected councillor in Stratford upon Avon. As well as bringing both Greenwatt and the council on board with 10:10, she helped to get the UK's first full size battery-powered bus zipping around the streets of Stratford upon Avon.

I caught up with her to find out more about her new role as a Green Leader in the West Midlands.

What do Green Leaders do?

Green Leaders are people working in business, academia, local government and the voluntary sector to move the green agenda forward and spread the message more broadly. Leaders often work together as a group, leading discussions, hosting workshops and helping people to learn more about cutting carbon emissions through their own experiences.

Through our networks we are able to assist organisations by identifying expertise on a range of green issues such as energy and resource management.

What have you found to be the best way to motivate people?

As a businesswoman, an elected councillor and an academic, I've dealt with a lot of the challenges myself. I find the best way to motivate people is to show them it's possible, using my own experiences as something tangible people can follow.

Finally, what is your top tip for aspiring green leaders?

Know that you're not alone. Work together with other people in your business or join forces with other businesses to motivate and learn from each other. As someone who has been involved in environmental issues for over thirty years, this is the best time to be in business dealing with environmental issues – don’t miss the opportunity!

Inspired by Susan? Why not follow her advice and find others in your organisation that you can team up with to give your 10:10 effort a boost? You could even try contacting people in other organisations to share tips and experiences.
