A giant inflatable car decked out with streamers, wedding banners and a 10:10 tag parked down a lovely cul-de-sac – what better way to launch Streetcar’s sign-up to 10:10? We went along to Streetcar HQ to welcome the UK’s largest car club into the 10:10 fold.Streetcar's dedicated 10:10 team, or the "10:10 Ten" as they are known in the office, have been hard at work building excitement and awareness among staff ahead of today's launch.
In addition to the emails and posters popping up all over the office they also came up with a host of creative ways to kickstart their year of action, including an "hour of enlighTENment" (lights off bewteen 10:10 – 11:10) and a monthly green car competition and a "take the stairs" campaign, where staff taking the lift pay a 10p tax which goes directly to Streetcar’s chosen charities.
To keep everyone up to date with their progress, Streetcar have also set up a dedicated 10:10 page on their intranet where staff can read campaign updates, visit the 10:10 blog, sign up to the campaign as individuals and access information about the company's cycle to work scheme.
By being part of a car-club, our members already help to reduce congestion and minimise their CO2 emissions, so we’re very happy to encourage them to get involved with 10:10 as well.
Today's launch also marks a new push to get Streetcar members involved and signed up to 10:10. Streetcar’s 1,500-strong fleet of low-carbon vehicles located in ten cities across the UK help take an average of 26 privately-owned cars off the road. Additionally, car club members produce just a quarter of the annual vehicle emissions produced by an average UK driver.
Garry Thornton, Streetcar’s PR Executive and office 10:10 guru said, "Getting Streetcar signed up to 10:10 has been a great experience and we look forward to following through with our commitment to reduce our operational CO2 over the next 12 months. By being part of a car-club, our members already help to reduce congestion and minimise their CO2 emissions - so we’re very happy to encourage them to get involved with 10:10 as well. We look forward to engaging with other 10:10 companies and organisations in an effort for us to drive down emissions across the UK together"
