What do beer, bikes and bogs have in common? Ingredients for a messy night out? Maybe, but they’re also the focus for three of the thousands of carbon-cutting events taking place as part of 10:10:10 - A Global Day of Doing on Sunday, 10th October, 2010.
With the clock ticking, you’ve been flooding 10:10:10's inbox with details of your exciting plans, having registered your event with our good friends over at 350.org.
Down in Ashford, Kent, Ian is leading a bog restoration project with the Kent Wildlife Trust. The Dalbeattie Parish Church in the Scottish Borders is hosting a low-carbon lunch with beer from the local brewery, while in London, the Greening The Green project is having a party to launch a three-year campaign to create a low-carbon street.
But it’s a truly global day of action, with events from Auckland to Ajijic and New Zealand to Zimbabwe. Leyla and co in Honolulu are getting together to sell unwanted bikes to cash-strapped students. In Karachi, Mancha is leading a project teaching local women to use fuel-efficient stoves. And the 350 Burundi campaign is hosting an artistic competition to get secondary school students to use low-carbon transport.
These are just a few of the wonderful things happening worldwide. Log on to www.350.org to register your 10:10:10 event, drop us a line at day@1010global.org to let us know your plans, and watch this space for more details of events happening near you.
