10:10 feels the festival love

This weekend, with the sun shining high in the sky, 10:10 is continuing its summer of festivals, visiting Latitude and Lovebox: two massive summer events which are cutting their carbon with help from 10:10 and Julie's Bicycle.

Beth and I have been down at Latitude in Southwold, Suffolk, seeing how they're getting on with their green initiatives, and also spreading the word about the campaign. And we were absolutely thrilled when, within half an hour of arriving, three people approached us to excitedly reveal how they'd signed up to 10:10 and were making some great progress.

First up was Emma, student activities officer from London's Royal Holloway University SU, who greeted us like a long-lost friend and told us how she'd spent the last few months working on some great awareness campaigns to tell students at her uni about 10:10, and making some serious dents in the  student union's carbon emissions. Great stuff.

Ben from Arcola shows us his cells.

No sooner had we waved cheerio to Emma, when Ben from the Arcola Theatre Company came bounding up, to tell us about how he'd been busy switching conventional bulbs around the site for low energy LEDs. He also showed off some hydrogen fuel cells, which have been powering a lot of Latitude's outdoor lighting, as well as supplying security tents and other facilities. He added Arcola, a company which itself has signed up to 10:10, is making some great progress cutting its own carbon and is well on track to reaching its 10% target. Brilliant work.

And then finally, we approached a woodland stall where two ladies from The Bunting Factory were making a giant string of bunting from reclamed fabrics. Turned out they'd both signed up to 10:10 too; not only was The Bunting Factory reusing fabrics to make their wares, but the two of them were shunning the high street to make their own clothes from re-used and recycled clothing from charity shops and car boot sales. Nice one.

The kids go wild for 10:10. Cute!

What's amazing about these three stories is that they were all completely volunteered by enthusiastic 10:10-ers who saw the two of us with our giant 10:10 tag and wanted to tell us what they'd done.
