A big 10:10 welcome to the University of Oxford, which just became the 52nd university to join the campaign. With 220 buildings, many of them several hundred years old, getting these most hallowed of halls up to scratch is no small task.
Joining 10:10 has given the Oxford's sustainability team an opportunity to build on the university's existing environmental policies.
This new challenge has given the Oxford's sustainability team an opportunity to build on the university's existing environmental policies. In order to help the university’s 184 departments meet the 10:10 target, they have developed an Energy Toolkit, providing practical energy-saving tips to staff and students.
In June 2010, the sustainability team will also publish an energy toolkit specifically for college buildings, with a comprehensive carbon management plan to follow later in the year.
Kate Aydin – one of the people making it all happen – says that a university-wide effort will be the key to success. She said: "Joining the 10:10 campaign is an important part of the University’s commitment to cutting carbon emissions – and all staff and students will be encouraged to play their part."
Kate and her colleagues will be keeping us up to date on their progress throughout the year. Keep an eye on the website to find out how they – and thousands of other 10:10ers – are getting on.
