Here at 10:10, we're all about getting our positive message out to as many people as possible, across all sections of society. So we're delighted to announce that The National Magazine Company has become a media partner of 10:10.

Jamie Oliver brought the parlous state of UK school food to the public’s attention. Jamie’s media profile forced the government to act where food campaigners had struggled to make headway. National Nutritional Standards, abolished under Margaret Thatcher, were reintroduced in 2007. School caterers were obliged to offer more healthy options. School kitchens, which had become microwaving facilities following compulsory competitive tendering in the 1980s, were rebuilt to permit cooking from raw ingredients. Kitchen staff were trained (or retrained) to cook.

Sleep to solve climate change

The workaholic's lifestyle doesn't give us much time to think about cutting emissions, so for my 10% commitment, I decided to work 10% less and sleep 10% more.

Figuring I must use hardly any CO2 in my sleep this seemed like a lovely way to cut my carbon and restore some much needed work-life balance after five years working insanely hard on our climate change documentary, The Age of Stupid.

We've spent the last few weeks badgering 10:10 businesses and organisations for info on how they've been cutting their carbon, so it's only fair that we spill the beans on our own 10:10 progress. Here goes...

10:10 takes over G2


Series: six months in

Today's 10:10-themed G2 supplement. And some cables.

Those crafty folk at the Guardian have done it again. A long-time backer of the campaign, the paper marked our six month anniversary with a special edition of the G2 supplement and an avalanche of new coverage on the website.

I was really glad to see these stories focus on the concrete actions people and organisation have taken to reduce their emissions. Signing up is great, but 10:10 is ultimately about doing, and the imagination and ambition 10:10ers have shown in making their carbon cuts is really inspiring.
