Ten 10:10:10 events planned for this Sunday's Global Day of Doing

Windsor Castle 10%

Home Park, Windsor Castle, gets ready for 10:10:10

I can’t believe there are just a few days to go before our Global Day of Doing this Sunday. I want to share with you ten (of course!) events I’m looking forward to, including one I've just found out about: a group rolling up their sleeves to clean up the River Wandle near where I grew up (thanks guys!). OK, here we go...

  • In Bradford Upon Avon, there'll be a low-carbon lunch organised by Climate Friendly Bradford. Everyone is invited to bring a savory dish to share, and there's some good news if you have a sweet tooth: pudding will be laid on, made from from local and Fairtrade ingredients. Plus there will be a ‘sell it or swap it’ table for everyone to bring along any surplus garden produce or homemade jams, chutneys etc and either put them on sale or swap them for someone else’s produce.
  • In Tynedale, friends, families and neighbours are getting to work at the Ministeracres Peace Garden. They are building a compost heap using plastic bottles, harvesting the veg they have grown and planting in the new polytunnel. And then after all that work there will be a tasty lunch prepared using garden produce. About as low carbon as you can get!
  • Newport Parish Council will join thousands of businesses, schools, and organisations when it signs up to 10:10 with launch event on Saturday.
  • Marlow is turning up the music with a Pink Floyd tribute concert to raise funds for eco-projects at a local school.
  • In Herefordshire there'll be a week of activities and events across the county to help people reduce their energy use. There will be a guided cycle ride in Leominster to show people how to travel around the city without a car and an event in Goodrich with energy experts on hand to offer carbon-cutting advice.
  • Our friends at Otesha in London are bringing a box of jumpers and blankets into the office so they won't need to crank up the heating this winter.
  • Students in Petersfield are holding a swishing event: you bring an unwanted item of clothing and swap it with someone who would love to give it a new home. You get a new wardrobe, guilt-free.
  • In Bristol 10:10ers are getting together and rolling up their sleeves to clear a country lane previously used for fly-tipping. Why not tidy up your local street?
  • In Edinburgh one lucky pub is going to be carrotmobbed!  For the uninitiated, carrotmobbing is a type of consumer activism in which pubs, cafes or shops acting sustainably are rewarded by customers who flock en-masse to celebrate their green achievements. Kind of like the opposite of a boycott.
  • Lucky festivalgoers in Nottingham will be given slabs of vegan chocolate cake to raise awareness of the big day. Save us a slice!

To  find out more about any of these events, email us. Or if you’ve been inspired by the events but are not yet doing something this Sunday, remember, there's still time to plan your 10:10:10 event. Click here for some inspiration and tips on how to plan yor big day.

Most importantly, if you've got an event organised, make sure to let us know all about it. Email us your pictures and tell us your stories, and we'll stream them on the 10:10 website from Saturday evening until 10:10am on Monday morning.
